Adobe's ESCAPE Committee is a volunteer group of employees who organize recreational activities to encourage social interaction. Typical events include discounted tickets to the symphony, movies, opera, or art museum; employee clubs can request funding from the Committee for activities or sports teams.
Within departments, managers have a morale budget to use for celebrating team accomplishments or holding team-building events such as pizza parties, bocce ball, and bowling. These activities give employees a chance to socialize outside of work around activities they share an interest in and outside the constraints of a stuffy office environment.
Onsite practices and facilities bring employees together as well, encouraging intimacy and helping to build community. At headquarters in San Jose, a recreation room has a ping pong table, pool table, and video games. The company's Engineering Department hosts a beer bash every Friday after work on the patio of Adobe's café.
At quarterly team meetings, senior leaders present service awards to employees, highlighting individual and team accomplishments. Following these quarterly employee meetings, management often treats employees to a reception to celebrate their collective accomplishments.
These events encourage cooperation while fostering a sense of belonging by recognizing and celebrating employee contributions.
