Envision a place where nurses and patients mingle without the typical nursing stations, where all rooms are semi private, where artwork covers the walls, salt water aquariums provide a calm escape, and medical records are available for review by patients and their families. Therapy dogs and musicians roam the halls and family-like kitchens buzz with activity as patients and staff alike share a meal or enjoy a coffee break. There is minimal signage, as staff members are more than willing to guide a patient or lost visitor to their desired destination - a small gesture, yes, but a huge help to the patients, who gratefully remember the experience of a staff member stopping what they were doing to take them where they needed to go.
