Arnold & Porter is being recognized for its inclusive and comprehensive diversity initiatives. A mandatory diversity training is provided annually in all offices, for all employees. This training program has successfully increased employees' sensitivity to and awareness of diversity issues, and has become an integral part of the firm's culture. An inclusive Diversity Committee, chaired by an African-American partner, has representatives from all offices of the firm and includes partners, associates, and administrative staff; men and women; gay and lesbian attorneys; racially diverse attorneys; and part-time attorneys.
As a participant in the Corporate Equality Index Survey of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the nation's largest advocacy group for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans, Arnold & Porter is able to gauge how their benefits and policies compare to other corporate employers - yet another example of their commitment to promoting a diverse employee population. This year, the firm instituted Diversity Leadership Training for partners and administrative staff who hold leadership positions in the firm. This training is in addition to the mandatory diversity training for all attorneys and staff.
As part of the Diversity Leadership Training, each participant is required to develop a diversity initiative that he or she must implement in the area of his or her responsibility (e.g., committee, department or practice group). This firm truly values and benefits from the diversity of its employees.
"The firm has a wonderful diversity class that's required by all. In this class everyone interacts with one another along side attorneys, partners, secretary's etc. This is a tremendous benefit to the firm and to the employees because it teaches us how to interact with one another, how to respect each other and to appreciate the diversity that the firm has." - Arnold & Porter employee |
