Diversity has been a fundamental corporate value at Herman Miller since the company's founding in the early 20th century. More recently, the company has been working to build diversity into its system-wide strategy and operations in a meaningful and measurable way. Herman Miller is being recognized for this well-integrated approach to building diversity into the fabric of the company and its business. Herman Miller's Corporate Inclusiveness and Diversity Team, established in 2004, created an overall strategy and specific metrics designed to reach goals set for 2010. A Corporate Diversity Council and seven Inclusiveness Resource Teams (comprised of employee-volunteers) help to fulfill the team's mission of aligning Herman Miller's Inclusiveness and Diversity Strategy with the company's values and initiatives. The diversity strategy and associated metrics focus on the five critical areas of Herman Miller's value stream, which are: Supplier Diversity; Dealer Distribution; Talent, Education and Awareness; and External Community Outreach. The company believes this strategy will allow it to have the most positive outcome for employees, customers, investors, and communities.
