2008 Great Place to Work® Institute Awards"We are all treated as if our last name was Wegman." Wegmans
Great Place to Work® Award for
Flexible scheduling is not just about staffing positions at Wegmans - it's about camaraderie, respect, and genuine care for others. Wegmans' late Chairman, Robert Wegman, believed that expecting incredible customer service from people meant giving them a work-life balance that helps keep them engaged in both of their families, the family at home and the family at work. Wegmans employs a web-based system known as the Labor Resource Manager to ensure that no employee is overburdened and that every employee has the support of colleagues at the busiest times. Having a resource dedicated to staffing enables employees the flexibility to care for sick family members, pursue degrees, or enjoy a summer off to pursue a passion. Modifications to the system will soon enable the Labor Resource Manager to pair more seasoned employees with those who have less experience for training and mentoring. The support that employees offer to each other fosters incredible camaraderie that translates into extraordinary customer service at Wegmans. Employees experience tremendous pride in their company and offer, "We are all treated as if our last name was Wegman." "2 years ago my husband had a heart attack and I had to be out for a couple of weeks. I was told to take whatever time I needed and that I would be paid without using vacation time. They also sent cards, flowers, and food. When I told my family that Wegmans was doing they were in awe. I still to this day tear up with pride for my company when I think about it. By the way my husbands company (not Wegmans) made him take vacation time... After 27 years, I still love coming to work!" |
