2012 Best Workplaces Global Awards

25 Companies and Their Employees Recognised

Great Place to Work® will honour 25 multinational companies at an invitation-only black-tie awards ceremony and gala dinner at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco on Tuesday, November 13. The 25 companies represented on the World’s Best Multinational Workplaces 2012 list will be revealed at the dinner.

Qualifying companies have appeared on at least five national Great Place to Work lists, and at least 40 percent of their workforce are located outside the country in which the company is headquartered.

2011 Global Awards

All companies on the list should be proud of their efforts – indeed we’re inviting both employees and company leaders to attend and celebrate.

This is the second annual Great Place to Work World’s Best Multinational list. And it’s being released – and celebrated – on the 20th anniversary of the founding of Great Place to Work.

The Awards

Great Place to Work® has been producing Best Workplaces lists around the world for more than 20 years. Since the initial publication of The 100 Best Companies to Work for in America, by Milton Moskowitz and Great Place to Work co-founder Robert Levering, we have grown from assessing great workplaces in the United States, Brazil and Korea to more than 45 countries served by 41 offices on six continents.

Out of 251 potential multinational corporations listed around the world, we recognise the top 25 in the 2012 World’s Best Multinational Workplaces list.

At this awards ceremony we celebrate a culture of success that promulgates trust-based relationships. These companies’ executives and managers are the heroes because their leadership of great workplaces generates positive business results — higher stock prices, greater employee retention, less shrinkage and more effective recruitment. These companies are shining examples of how to build solid businesses based on trust, pride and camaraderie. Let’s celebrate their accomplishments, and disseminate the message of creating a better society by supporting great workplaces.

Registration for the Award Ceremony and Dinner is by invitation only. (Registration for the Cocktail Reception is open to the public.)

2012 Best Workplaces Global Awards

Can I tell our employees and the press about this accomplishment?

Please understand that your placement on this list is strictly confidential and embargoed until 11:00 pm PST, on November 13, 2012. On the day of the gala, all 25 companies will be announced to the press at the Awards Show, where the specific rankings of each of the 25 companies will be revealed!

What criteria do you use to select the companies on the World’s Best Multinational Workplaces List?

There is no separate enrollment for the World’s Best Multinational Workplaces list. Once your company is recognised on one of our national Best Workplaces Lists, your company is automatically a candidate for this global list. However, to be considered on the World’s Best Multinational Workplaces List your company must:

  • Have appeared on at least five national Best Workplaces lists worldwide over the past year
  • Have at least 5,000 employees worldwide
  • And have at least 40% of its global workforce (or at least 5,000 employees) located outside its home country (the country in which the company is headquartered)

How do you determine the final ranking on a Best Workplaces List?

All companies are ranked based upon their individual Trust Index© score and Culture Audit© score. The total score determines whether or not a company will be listed, as well as its rank on a particular list. Each company’s score is calculated as the average of the different country scores weighted by the total number of employees in each country. In addition, a company on the Global List may earn up to 15% extra credit based upon:

  • The number of countries in which the company participated in a Great Place to Work® List (the higher the number, the higher the credit)
  • The ratio of the number of employees who participated in the Great Place to Work survey compared to the total number of employees (the higher the ratio, the higher the credit)

What companies were on the list last year?

You can see the 2011 list here.

What is my ranking on the list?

This will be revealed at the Awards Show on November 13, 2012 beginning with a cocktail reception at 6:30 pm and a dinner and ceremony commencing at 7:30 pm.

Who can attend the Awards Show?

We encourage you to bring any employee from the 25 companies! We also hope that each company includes its C-level, global HR and global communications executives, while also bringing employees who you may wish to honour by including them in this special event. (Companies may purchase additional seats or an entire table to celebrate with us.)

Is there a charge to attend?

Each of the 25 companies being honoured will be given one VIP pass to the Awards Ceremony and Dinner. Additional executives and employees can be included by purchasing individual tickets or a corporate, sponsored table that seats 10.

Can any of the 25 companies sponsor the event?

No, but you can support the event by purchasing one or more corporate tables.

How do I register the people who will be coming or purchase a corporate table?

Our Executive Concierge, Andriana Stojnic, is available to help you with your registration, both for your complementary VIP guest and for any additional employees who you may wish to include. Please contact Andriana at +1 646-370-1181 or online.
You may also register on our website.

Where is the Award Show being held?

It will be in San Francisco, California at the beautiful Asian Art Museum across from City Hall.

Will there be media coverage of the award?

Yes, in traditional media (see below), through social networks and via a printed publication created by Great Place to Work. Additionally, we will publish the 25 Best Multinational Workplaces on our 50 global websites.

Is there a social media strategy?

Yes, we will be working with company communications’ staffs and will provide event and global list hashtags.

You mentioned a publication. What is that? Do you have all the information you need for this publication?

See last year’s publication here. We will be contacting you to check or obtain specific statistics about your company. We’ll also be asking you for your global corporate logo.

What's the press strategy?

We'll be sending you a press release template with information that you can use to communicate internally and to the media in the coming weeks. We also may be approaching you for interviews as Great Place to Work will be sponsoring an extensive publicity campaign of its own.
