The Great Place to Work® Institute was founded by Robert Levering and Amy Lyman.

David A. Jones

Co-Chair of the Board

A labor and employment lawyer by training, David Jones serves as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Institute.

As second-in-command of human resources at Stanford University, David has had a long association with the Institute starting almost 10 years ago when, as Director of Workforce Initiatives at Harvard University, he engaged Great Place to Work®, Inc. to perform surveys and other transformational work on behalf of the university. Years later, as a Corporate Vice President at Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) – persuaded by the power of the research and mission of Great Place to Work®– David again called upon the Institute to help bolster efforts to improve the workplace at a number of CHW's 42 hospitals. David has continued his association with the Institute, serving as a member of its first Board of Directors over the last three years – as Chair of the Personnel Committee.

In addition to Stanford, Harvard, and CHW, David has had a long and distinguished career in human resources serving in positions of increasing responsibility with Southern California Edison Company, Georgetown University, Federal Bureau of Prisons, and Howard University.

David resides in Oakland, California with his wife Sheila, and daughter Hailey.
