As one of the most recognizable names in the hospitality industry, Hyatt knows how important communication, relationships, and creating a welcoming environment – for colleagues and guests – are to success.

The company supports these important aspects in several ways. One such program is Hyattalks, which gathers colleagues together with leadership in small group discussions to share knowledge and insights, and raise issues or ideas for improvement. These sessions are held about six times a year and aims to bring together a diverse mix of colleagues – from across departments or levels within the organization.

Hyatt embraces equity and fairness in its approach to hearing – and implementing – employee ideas. A team member appreciates the company’s inclusive mentality, remarking, ""Even though I am relatively inexperienced in my role I am listened to and taken seriously when I have suggestions on how to do things differently and to work best to suit my working style. Family, connectedness, fun, and community impact are a few of the cornerstones of Hyatt’s culture. Colleagues are encouraged to share their stories on social platforms using the hashtag #inahyattworld. One story that illustrates what it’s like #inahyattworld comes from Andaz London Liverpool Street:

Andaz London Liverpool Street works closely with a homeless charity called Providence Row. Throughout the year supporting their events and organizing cooking workshop hosted by our Head Chef and attended by their clients. This year Providence Row created a social enterprise called Rise that is part of their Trainee Scheme. They bake brownies, cakes and snacks which they sell to the local coffee shops or online. When they told us about the new project we instantly offered our support; we asked for volunteers within our team and helped Providence Row to deliver the products and promote them around the neighborhood for one month. It was a great experience to find out more about their project as well as to meet the local coffee shops and spend some time with different colleges sharing a social goal.

On top of that we were selected by Hyatt for a project together with other properties; they recorded a series of video explaining the social community experiences of Hyatt around the world. It was an exciting experience. Our general manager, Otto Steenbeek enjoyed making a difference with his colleagues and the community.
