August 22, 2016 (San Francisco, Calif.) – New ideas can benefit any company, but in advertising they lie at the very heart of the business. Creative campaigns, market analysis and a constantly shifting set of digital tools all require teams where people feel comfortable innovating alongside their peers. That's why research and consulting firm Great Place to Work® and Fortune are excited to announce their ranking of the 2016 Best Workplaces in Advertising & Marketing. Surveyed employees confirm these organizations offer convivial environments that foster open dialogue and unconventional thinking.

"Employees at these standout organizations speak of high levels of trust and camaraderie – traits essential to innovation and exploring ideas as a team."

Dixon Schwabl held the no. 1 position in the ranking, followed by NewsCred and FluentClick here to see all 10 winners. Among their employees, it's telling that 95 percent describe their workplace as caring and characterized by a family-like atmosphere. These companies do all they can to help their people enjoy the workplace while getting to know each other better. For example:

  • Co-workers at Dixon Schwabl have ample opportunities to bond during Ice Cream Thursdays, an annual day of volunteering, or the parties, art classes and outings enabled by a budget earmarked specifically for employee fun.
  • Every year, NewsCred team members take a full week away from their office to spend together in a summery locale like the Hamptons.
  • People across teams often find time to chat over Fluent's frequent catered meals, within company sports leagues or during an annual scavenger hunt in New York's Financial District.

The companies on the list were ranked based on survey responses from employees at marketing organizations certified by Great Place to Work. The Best Workplaces in Advertising & Marketing stood out for their ability to create a cohesive and dedicated workforce:

  • Nearly all employees at the winning companies (99 percent) said they can count on their co-workers to cooperate.
  • 96 percent said their managers hire people who fit in well.
  • 96 percent said their teams are willing to give extra to get the job done.
  • 95 percent said they look forward to coming to work.

In addition to their welcoming atmosphere, these companies create a deep sense of trust that the organization will treat people in an even-handed fashion. An impressive 97 percent of co-workers felt that these businesses pay fairly. At the same time, more than nine in 10 people working for the best companies in marketing said their peers avoid office politicking, while 85 percent confirm their managers would turn to layoffs only as a last resort.

That loyalty runs both ways. Fully 93 percent of employees at the Best Workplaces in Advertising & Marketing said they want to stay with their employers for a long time. And at these companies, turnover averages just 12.5 percent. In contrast, a recent study indicated that advertising agencies in general lost 25 percent of their talent last year.

The Best Workplaces in Advertising & Marketing is one of a series of rankings by Great Place to Work andFortune based upon employee survey feedback from Great Place to Work-Certified organizations.

The Best Workplaces in Advertising & Marketing ranking is based entirely upon feedback from more than 4,000 employees at Great Place to Work–Certified companies in the Advertising & Marketing sector who completed our Trust Index© Employee Survey.
