April 12, 2017 (San Francisco, Calif.) – Regulatory uncertainty, industry consolidation and fast-paced changes in technology: Health care is a field in constant flux and can make for a challenging work environment. Given  extra need for effective leadership and supportive workplaces, Great Place to Work and Fortune are excited to announce this year’s ranking of the Best Workplaces in Health Care.

These leading organizations stand out for the way their employees experience trust, camaraderie, communication and leadership, according to surveys from nearly 88,000 people in the health care industry. Great Place to Work’s analysis shows that the winning organizations have cultures that lead to better organizational performance, and a more fulfilling, supportive place to work each day.

  • An average of 93 percent of employees at the Best Workplaces in Health Care describe their organizations as friendly and welcoming.
  • Hospitals on the list averaged higher “Overall Hospital Rating” and “Recommended Hospital” HCAHPS scores than the national average.
  • Employees at the leading companies were even more likely than their highly regarded Great Place to Work–Certified™ peers to say they are offered professional development, fair pay and an emotionally healthy work environment.

“Earning a place among the Best Workplaces in Health Care means these organizations are dedicated to the well-being of their employees, which also benefits the patients they serve,” Peters says. “What’s more, their team members share a powerful sense of purpose in what they accomplish together, with an average of 92 percent saying they’re proud to tell others where they work.”

The Best Workplaces in Health Care is one of a series of rankings by Great Place to Work and Fortune based on employee survey feedback from Great Place to Work–Certified organizations. 

 

About The Best Workplaces in Health Care

Published together with  partner, Fortune, the Best Workplaces in Health Care rankings are based on feedback from more than 87,770 employees at Great Place to Work–Certified organizations in health care, including the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector. Employees completed our anonymous Trust Index© survey, answering questions about how frequently they experience the building blocks of a great workplace. Employees rate leadership strength and integrity, pride in their work and organization, and the quality of relationships with co-workers, among other factors. Results from the survey are highly reliable, having a 95 percent confidence level and a margin of error of 5 percent or less.

Earning a place on this list indicates the company has distinguished itself from peers by creating a Great Place to Work For All™. Rankings reward organizations where not only the majority of their employees experience a great place to work, but these experiences are highly consistent regardless of who people are or what they do within the organization. Results are considered based on the complexity of the employee population and relative to peer performance.
