Nov. 7, 2017 (San Francisco) – Great Place to Work and FORTUNE have named 2017’s Best Workplaces in Retail – organizations that earn employee loyalty and valuable word-of-mouth referrals in this fast-changing industry.
Colleagues frequently serve as brand ambassadors for the winning companies, where 90 percent of employees say they’re proud to tell others where they work. That pride extends to their jobs, as well. Nine in 10 people at the Best Workplaces say customers would rate their service as “excellent.”
The ranking considered surveys from thousands of hourly and salaried retail employees at organizations selling products as diverse as gasoline and outdoors equipment. The winning organizations all share high marks from team members for their collegial work environments, trustworthy leaders, fair management and opportunities for career development.

Smiles abound at the leading workplaces:
- An average of 96 percent of employees at the winning organizations say they have a friendly workplace; and 87 percent say it has a family or team feeling.
- Eighty-nine percent of co-workers at the winning organizations agree, “I can be myself around here.” Employees who agree with this statement are four times more likely to express pride in their employers, advancing their brands.
