October 31, 2017 (San Francisco) – Great Place to Work and FORTUNE today announced their annual ranking of the Best Workplaces in Southern California, plus research into how organizations can use culture to retain employees.
The high cost of living in Southern California puts pressure on employees and employers. According to Zillow, home prices in Los Angeles County are 2.8 times higher than the national average. High costs can make it hard for employees to stay and difficult for companies to attract talent to the region.
Creating a great place to work for all helps businesses retain co-workers and recruit new ones. At the Best Workplaces in Southern California, nine in 10 employees said they want to stay with their organizations for a long time.
Small and Medium Workplaces:
|Roth Staffing Companies||New American Funding|
|Hughes Marino||The Cheesecake Factory|
“All things being equal, housing costs and a high cost of living overall can impact an employee’s willingness and capacity to stay with an employer. Those employees that do stay are making a conscious choice, not because of higher pay or better benefits, but because the work is rewarding and their workplace experience is fulfilling,” said Chinwe Onyeagoro, president of Great Place to Work.
Exceptional Workplaces Drive Employee Retention
- Co-workers who said their company is fun and friendly were six times more likely to plan a long-term future there.
- Employees who were proud to tell others where they work were 13 times more likely to stay.
