2012 Best Small & Medium Workplaces
Tomorrow we will officially announce the 2012 Best Small & Medium Workplaces. The List will be published in the November 12th issue of FORTUNE Magazine, available online on Thursday, October 25th and set to hit newsstands on Monday, October 29th.
What is most interesting about our small and medium list is that these workplace cultures, and the ability to alter or improve these cultures, differs significantly from that of their larger counterparts. While resources are usually more limited, the rate of change is exhilarated in a smaller community. This means that businesses of this size are in a unique position to radically change their culture, almost overnight.
As such, we see a lot more movement on the Best Small & Medium Workplaces than we do on the 100 Best list. For instance, this year we are excited to announce 16 newcomers to the List. While these newcomers will add a fresh perspective to our benchmark, we continue to honor our veterans. Five companies have consistently been named one of the Best since the List’s inception in 2004. This is an impressive feat, considering the ever increasing competition.
Here are a few fast facts on this year’s winners in anticipation of tomorrow’s List announcement:
- 17 of the 50 Best offer unlimited sick time
- 20 offer the option to work compressed work weeks
- 33 companies reimburse college tuition for employee development
- 41 have an on-site fitness centers or subsidize off-site fitness center memberships
- 44 offer financial planning resources for retirement planning
Although less than 4,000 jobs were filled at the 50 Best Workplaces this past year, over a quarter million applicants vied for those few spots; confirming once again the ROI on building a world-class culture.
Check back tomorrow, October 25th for the official announcement of the 2012 Best Small & Medium Workplaces to learn more about this year’s List winners.
