All companies that appear on our list are evaluated and selected primarily on the basis of their employees' responses to the Great Place to Work® Trust Index©, a proprietary employee survey developed by the Great Place to Work® Institute. In addition, we evaluate materials submitted by the company in response to the Great Place to Work® Culture Audit© questionnaire; any supplementary materials submitted by the company, as well as information gathered from reputable sources.
Trust Index© Employee Survey
All organizations being evaluated for a Best Companies list administer the Trust Index© Employee Survey to all or a representative sample of their employee population. This 58-statement survey measures their employees’ experience through the 5 Dimensions of the Great Place to Work® Model© and captures verbatim employee comments about what makes their workplace great and what would make it better. Two-thirds of our evaluation is based on employee survey results.
Culture Audit© Questionnaire
The remaining third of an organization’s evaluation is drawn from the Culture Audit© Questionnaire and other supplemental materials. Typically completed by members of a management team, the Culture Audit© collects and provides a detailed look at how an organization is structured, its philosophy and values, employee demographics, the compensation and benefits offered to employees and stories and examples of distinctive practices and policies in their workplace. Typically, supplemental materials are also provided by the company to better illustrate information captured in the Culture Audit© questionnaire.
