Our Approach: Integrity, Confidentiality, and Positive Recognition

Integrity of Our Selection Process

  • Any company that appears on our list is selected primarily on the basis of their employees' responses to the Great Place to Work® Trust Index©, a proprietary employee survey developed by the Great Place to Work® Institute. In addition, we evaluate materials submitted by the company, including the company's response to the Great Place to Work® Culture Audit©, any accompanying materials submitted by the company for consideration, as well as information gathered from other reputable sources such as media stories about the company.
  • Great Place to Work® Institute, Great Place to Work® Europe, Great Place to Work® Latin America, and its representative affiliates (collectively "GPTW") will not consider personal relationships, gifts, or various influences (or attempted influences) in the selection of the companies for the list.
  • GPTW's assessment/consulting practice helps companies become great places to work; the assessment consulting part of our business does not help companies appear on the list. We make this distinction clear to our clients.
  • Evaluators involved in the selection of companies for the list must sign non-disclosure agreements and are screened for potential conflicts-of-interest before participating in the evaluation process.

Confidentiality: Data, Materials, or other Company Information

  • GPTW will securely hold all company information given to it, and will not sell, rent, license, lease, loan or trade any contact information or data relating to companies to third parties. Any email addresses provided to GPTW for administration of the Trust Index© will be used solely for the purpose of the survey and will be securely destroyed following completion of the survey process.
  • GPTW provides company data or contact information only to its media and research collaborators who have been authorized in advance by written agreements with GPTW for purposes of developing and publishing the list. GPTW will seek advance approval from participating companies for any other external (i.e., non-article or non-GPTW) use of data relating to the companies.
  • GPTW will not release a participating company's survey scores in their entirety without the company's prior written permission, and will seek such permission only if it provides positive recognition for the company.
  • For companies that are selected for the list, GPTW may publish reports, citing examples of a company's best practices or specific data points submitted through the selection process or may publicly share these best practices or data points, so long as they agree with the terms of positive recognition outlined below. GPTW will not release any company-specific data or information about companies who are not selected for the list.
  • GPTW will not reveal whether or not a company has participated for selection on the list, for current or past years. This means that we will not share company participation information with employees of participating companies. We work through our specific contact at each company and allow the company to decide whether or not they want to reveal their participation in the Best Companies process.

Positive Recognition: External communications about the list, companies, and data

  • GPTW will publicize only information about companies that make the list and will publicize only information that we consider to be positive.
  • A listed company's survey scores on selected questions may be highlighted in the media to illustrate unique or best practices that make that company an outstanding workplace.
