The other day I wrote about the frustration I feel when I turn on the news and hear about the many Americans that are still struggling to make ends meet. This is especially difficult for me to hear when, everyday, I come to work and meet with companies committed to transforming their workplaces. From small businesses to global corporations, I work with companies that not only provide great workplace cultures for their employees, but are also increasing their profits! This is not in spite of the fact that they allocate so many resources to their employees- it is because of this that these companies are doing exceedingly well.
This means that no matter the economic outlook or political unrest, hundreds of companies are offering millions of employees a great place to work right now, in 45 countries around the globe. Tomorrow’s announcement of the Great Place To Work®’s first-ever World’s Best Multinational Workplaces list, is kind of amazing when you think about it-
These companies transcend the varying economies, politics, and subcultures of multiple countries and consistently produce great workplaces. That is why we couldn’t help ourselves; we just had to recognize these admirable companies for their continuous hard work.
What do the Global Awards have to do with struggling Americans? Well, I’ll tell you. These companies provide us with a working model on how to provide great workplaces, despite the current challenges we face as a country. Microsoft, for instance, has been named a Best Company in 26 countries! If this can be achieved abroad, then I know it can be done here at home as well. Lisa Brummel, Chief People Officer, told us that Microsoft isa great place to work “because of the quality of the company culture that our employees have collectively created.” I love the emphasis on the employees, and the collective work involved in creating a great workplace. I believe that if we want to transform our workplaces and build a better society, we too need to work together. And what better place to start than at the New York Stock Exchange!
